First Prayer in the New Year

The beginning of a new year is a natural moment to pause, reflect, and gently set our direction for the months ahead.

Our First Prayer in the New Year is a calm and welcoming Buddhist service, where we offer gratitude for the year that has passed and express our hopes and intentions for the year to come. Through the recitation of Kyoten (the Lotus Sutra), we pray for peace in our own lives and in the wider world.

On this occasion, the President of Rissho Kosei-kai shares a New Year’s message, offered before the Buddha, to help bring the spirit of the teachings into daily life. We also take a quiet moment to renew our personal intention for the year ahead.

This service is open to anyone, including non-members. You are very welcome to join online, whether you wish to take part actively or simply listen quietly with your microphone and camera turned off.
