Book Club

A gentle space to read, reflect, and share together

Our Book Club is a relaxed and welcoming space where we read Buddhist texts together and reflect on how the teachings speak to our everyday lives.

Rather than studying in an academic way, we read slowly and thoughtfully, pausing to share reflections, questions, and personal experiences. Listening is valued just as much as speaking, and there is no expectation to have read everything in advance.

Many people find the Book Club a natural next step after Sunday Service or Introduction to Buddhism and RKUK — a place to deepen understanding while remaining grounded in daily life.

What we read together

Our current Book Club focuses on:

Buddhism for Everyday Life
by Nikkyo Niwano

This collection of short Dharma messages offers gentle guidance for living with wisdom, compassion, and balance amid the realities of modern life. Each reading stands on its own, making it easy to join at any point.

What to expect

People often tell us that Book Club helps them to:

  • Reflect on Buddhist teachings in a practical and personal way

  • Hear how others apply the Dharma in their own lives

  • Feel supported by the shared experience of learning together

  • Build a steady rhythm of study alongside daily practice

You are welcome to join whether you feel confident sharing your thoughts, or whether you prefer simply to listen and reflect quietly.

Who is it for?

The Book Club is open to anyone, including non-members.

It is especially well suited for those who:

  • Are curious about Buddhism but unsure where to begin

  • Have some experience and wish to deepen their understanding

  • Are looking for a gentle, conversational approach to study

No prior knowledge is required.

How to attend

If you would like to join, please contact us using the enquiry form below and mention Book Club.
We kindly ask that you get in touch in advance, so we can send you the Zoom details and welcome you properly.

Practical notes

Having a copy of Buddhism for Everyday Life is helpful, but not essential for your first session.
If you are interested, we can let you know where to obtain a copy when you get in touch.

Fee

There is no charge to attend.
If you feel moved to do so, donations are gratefully received and help support the life of our Buddhist centre.

Many people join the Book Club simply to listen at first.
You are very welcome to take part in whatever way feels comfortable.
